Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Philippians 4: 8 (TPT)
Articles seem to be popping up everywhere about the importance of the mind and body connection. While this is nothing new, I’ve noticed it is becoming more prevalent. You may have read some of the studies regarding the mind and body connection and how focusing on positive thoughts has been shown to eliminate disease and health problems in some cases. One article I read quoted several scriptures from the Bible confirming the importance of a healthy mindset. I’m always thrilled to see God’s word being proven true!
As one who battles with several health issues, I find keeping a positive mindset to be the key to experiencing joy during storms. I’ve recently started writing scriptures as part of my morning quiet time, along with my usual practice of journaling and prayer. There are numerous resources online where you can print out monthly topics for scripture writing. I printed out one for the month of August about God as our refuge. I typically write out the verses in several translations. As I choose a new topic to focus on each month, I am creating a valuable resource of God’s word to reference in the future when I need verses regarding a specific topic. I plan to add artwork and stickers to my scripture writing notebook to highlight certain portions of the scripture. There are so many things you can do with scripture writing and I am enjoying focusing on verses about God as my refuge this month. What a blessing!
A few of my favorite scripture verses about mindset are:
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans: 12: 2)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Tim 1:7)
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you. (Isaiah 26: 3)
There is so much negativity in the world today. Just look at the major headlines of any newspaper in print or online and you will likely see doom and gloom. Headlines are created to grab attention and pull the reader in. While there’s nothing wrong with watching the news, focusing on negativity does not promote a healthy mindset and can lead to anxiety and stress.
What can you do today to overcome negative thinking and focus on developing a positive mindset?
